The Zephyrometer sculpture or wind wand in Kilbirnie is nearly horizontal in the gusty winds hitting Wellington. Wellington has been slammed by high winds that managed to topple a metal lamp post. Metservice recorded northerly gusts of 125kmh on Mt Kaukau and 120kmh in Wellington Harbour near the port on Wednesday. ROBERT KITCHIN/STUFF A lamp post on the corner of Lyall Bay Parade and Tirangi Road in Lyall Bay was blown over in the strong winds hitting Wellington. Nearby, Wellington's wand wand was blowing low but did not appear to be in danger of touching cars.
