Lam Thye urges govt to look into 'sick' public hospitals in need of repairs, upgrades

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pic) urges the government to seriously look at government hospitals which are old, dilapidated and do not have a certificate of fitness (CF) so that appropriate financial allocations can be provided for their repair and upgrading works. The Alliance for Safe Community (Ikatan) chairman said the repair and upgrading works will allow hospitals to function safely for staff and patients alike. Lee estimated that, based on his sources, there were at least 46 hospitals throughout the country that were dilapidated, old and do not have a CF. "It is understood that the cost of repairing and upgrading all the hospitals involves billions of ringgit. Lee said that for old hospital buildings, the risk of fire and wiring that have not been replaced for a long time were areas of concern.
