Just this afternoon, while I was writing this column, the Lakers pulled out of the trade, citing the Pelicans' "outrageous" requests. No draft picks were involved. One great player, three championships and no draft picks were involved. One great player, two championships and three draft picks were involved (two first-round picks to the Grizzlies; a second-round pick to L.A.). So while the franchise's record for acquiring big-name centers -- which generally led to championships while giving up little in trade -- is pretty damn good, it's not perfect.
