A total of 47, 804 final year students from all public secondary schools in Lagos State will be sponsored this year by the state government to sit for the forthcoming April\May West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). The figure is 1,159 (representing 3 per cent) increased over that of last year which was 44,645 candidates and would cost the government over half a billion naira. According to her, the e-registration otherwise known as data capturing would last three weeks starting from today- Thursday- and end on Friday, January 31, with all prospective candidates from across the 322 public senior secondary schools in the state, covered. On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Abosede Adelaja, said officers from the ministry and various schools across the six education districts in the state had already been trained by facilitators from WAEC office for the purpose. She, however, urged them to ensure they perform the role satisfactorily while the students on their part should start preparing now for the exam in order to attain excellence.
