Lagos bans illegal occupation of buildings under construction

The Lagos State government said it has prohibited illegal occupation of abandoned buildings and buildings under construction within the state. In a statement on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said the measure became imperative going by the security situation in the country. Citing section 73 of the amended Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019, Salako warned that the state would not hesitate to wield its powers to ensure that all parts of the state remained safe, secure, sanitised and sustainable. The statement admonished residents of the state to abide by its laws including the obligation of owners and developers of uncompleted or existing buildings to ensure that properties remained in proper environmental, safe and sanitation conditions. The LASG also announced a 6pm daily deadline imposed on construction workers to vacate the premises.Copyright PUNCH.
