By RICK GREEN, LACONIA DAILY SUNLACONIA — Fire sprinklers will be required in residential “cluster developments” under an amended ordinance approved by the City Council on Monday night. Previously, such developments were required to have only a fire-detection system connected to the city's main fire alarm monitoring system. Chief Ken Erickson said this previous requirement was not working well, as underground cables connecting the two systems often failed over time. On the other hand, sprinkler systems are fed by water mains that seldom fail. We're trying to improve safety in the city.”He said there have been no reports of multiple fatality fires in a residential building with a working sprinkler system.
