Lack of evidence doesn’t mean Madeleine McCann’s parents are innocent, court decides

Madeleine McCann’s parents have not been ruled innocent when it comes to their daughter’s disappearance, a judge in Portugal’s highest court has said. Kate and Gerry McCann have vehemently denied any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz. Portugal’s Supreme Court ruled last week that Madeleine’s parents couldn’t sue Amaral for libel after he published a 2008 book, The Truth of the Lie, alleging they were involved in their daughter’s disappearance. A court official told The Associated Press that Portugal’s highest court ruled the allegations are protected by freedom of expression laws. The couple were told last Tuesday the Supreme Court had gone against them in a ruling not made fully public until Thursday.
