Labour leadership hopeful Jess Phillips has backtracked after she suggested she would campaign to take the UK back into the European Union if she takes over from Jeremy Corbyn. 'I can’t see a campaign to rejoin winning support in the next Labour manifesto.' Ms Phillips said she believed Labour must 'always be an outward-facing and a pro-European party' but its general election defeat meant 'the terms of the debate have changed'. Ms Phillips' latest comments are likely to dash the hopes of many of Labour's pro-Remain activists who want the next leader to fight against Brexit. The party campaigned on a pledge to stay neutral on the issue and to hold a second referendum.
