Labour gains Tower Hamlets control in local polls, with 25 British-Bangladeshis as councillors


In the elections to the 150 local authorities, no major party could make any significant gains. Councillor candidates of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour have won 2,350 posts, which is 77 more than it did in the last local election. Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party avoided a wipeout, losing 33 and winning 1,332 councillor posts. The Liberal Democrats have gained 75 councillor posts across England, with a total of 345 winners from the party. Greens bagged 39 councillor posts, eight more than in the last election.
