Tom Watson said that the party would not cause a delay after Jeremy Corbyn was quoted as saying that he had delivered an ultimatum the TimesTom Watson, Labour’s deputy leader, has insisted that the party would not block or even delay Article 50 after Jeremy Corbyn spelt out his “Brexit bottom lines”. Mr Corbyn described Labour’s “basis for the negotiations” in an interview with the Sunday Mirror and said that Labour was ready for an early election. However, his aides said that the paper had been wrong to report that he had delivered an ultimatum. Mr Corbyn told the tabloid that he wanted continued tariff-free access to the single market, no watering down of workers’ rights, protections for consumers and the environment, and a pledge to match lost EU funding. “The court has thrown a big spanner in the works by saying parliament must be consulted,” he said.
