Michael Gove got his own back yesterday in spectacularly petty form. Shortly after announcing that he was giving up disposable plastics for Lent, he was pictured at a committee meeting with what appeared to be a plastic cup. Mega-geeks will remember that it would not be a first offence for the environment secretary, who has been spotted using the forbidden vessels a few times in the past. But after his misdemeanour was pointed out yesterday he smugly announced that it was a “compostable cup” now offered by the House of Commons.
