MANILA, Philippines — The Liberal Party on Thursday assailed the removal of representatives from key posts in Congress, saying it betrays the administration's "intolerance to dissent." On Wednesday, House Majority Rodolfo Fariñas declared the posts of representatives who voted against House Bill 4727, or the bill re imposing death penalty, vacant. While those opposed to the death penalty motioned to discuss the measure line by line in an effort to extend the debates, House leadership blocked the gestures to move for a vote. Pangilinan and colleagues Franklin Drilon, Bam Aquino and Risa Hontiveros were also stripped of their committee posts late last month.
