The Misrata-based state Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) revealed today that its new factory for the production of domestic gas cylinders will go into operation ‘‘by the end of this year’’. It will be recalled, as revealed by Libya Herald, that LISCO had revealed in August this year that it would start manufacturing domestic gas cylinders ‘‘in January or February of 2025’’. The new date for the start of the new gas cylinder factory came out of a LISCO meeting today ‘‘in preparation for the actual start of the operational trials of the gas cylinder plant” LISCO reported. The problem is the scrap value of the subsidised cylinders is worth more than their value as a working gas cylinder.
