The Lighthouse International Film Society will screen the film “We Met at Grossinger’s” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies. Rocky Marciano, the only undefeated heavyweight world champion boxer, loved to train at Grossinger’s. “Stand-up really was born, in many ways, out of the Borscht Belt – and certainly at Grossinger’s in particular,” producer Robert Friedman told forbes.com. “It really was the first all-inclusive resort experience,” director Eiselt told forbes.com. There was a tremendous investment into the education and the public school systems were fantastic.”The once great Borscht Belt resorts struggled and died off in the 1970s.
