The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, failed to cast his vote in Saturday’s local government elections in the state, even as general voter apathy marred the exercise in most parts of the state. Materials arrived late in many areas, including Port Harcourt city, Obio/Akpor, Andoni, Degema and other areas, with voting ending by 5pm. Though the election was largely peaceful, it was not without some skirmishes and widespread apathy. Our correspondent, who monitored the election, observed that there was panic at the governor’s Polling Unit 7, Ward 9 in Rumupirikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Journalists who were in Wike’s area to cover the exercise were disappointed as they waited for hours on end.
