LG Chem to supply batteries for NASA’s space suitsBy Chung Wook, Maeil Business News KoreaSouth Korea’s chemical and battery firm LG Chem is set to supply its batteries to the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the company said on Sunday. With the latest contract with NASA, LG Chem has broadened its business into the space industry. Last year It advanced into the electric vessel market by striking a deal to supply its batteries for hybrid offshore supply vessel Viking Queen to Norway’s Eidesvik Offshore. The batteries to be supplied to NASA will power the crucial devices for oxygen supply, communication, and radiation detection in the space suits, the company said. “By strengthening partnership with NASA, we will expand our business in the aerospace market,” said Lee Woong-beom, the head of LG Chem’s battery business division.
