KOLLAM: The LDF constituency committee in Kottarakkara has lodged complaints with the Election Commission and the State Police Chief alleging a targeted smear campaign against its candidate K N Balagopal through WhatsApp groups. In a complaint filed with the police, LDF constituency committee secretary George Mathew sought strict action against those behind the alleged defamatory content. He said messages containing personal and false allegations against Balagopal were being widely circulated on WhatsApp. According to the complaint, one such message surfaced in a WhatsApp group named ‘Veliyam Broozzz’ in the Veliyam area. The LDF has claimed that the messages are part of a coordinated attempt to malign the candidate ahead of the polls.
