A Los Angeles Unified school bus that was just minutes away from picking up its first students of the day was struck by gunfire in South L.A. Thursday morning, district officials said. “The bus was not the target.”The bus was still at the intersection an hour after the shooting. LAUSD officials said another bus would take its place on the morning route. It’s unusual, but not unheard of for buses to be struck by stray bullets in Los Angeles. In 2014, a Metro bus’ rear glass was shattered by gunfire near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Vermont, though no one was injured.
