The Raptors won their first NBA title on this day in 2019, sparking an unforgettable street celebration into the wee hours of the morning and a massive championship parade in downtown Toronto a few days later. Befitting the anniversary, a ceremony was held Monday morning in North York to name a street after Raptors franchise icon Kyle Lowry, the heart and soul of that championship-winning team. Lowry was one of seven people who had a street named after them at Don Mills Crossing, a new development at the northeast corner of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East. Don Mills Crossing is a 60-acre site with residential, office and retail buildings, parks and open spaces, and what’s described as the largest community centre in Toronto. Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong and Andrew De Gasperis of Aspen Ridge Homes were among those in attendance at the ceremony.
