Kuwait, Ethiopia eye domestic workers talks

KUWAIT CITY, May 5: In a move aimed at addressing the shortage of domestic workers in Kuwait, Bassam Al-Shammari, an expert in domestic labor affairs, revealed that discussions between Kuwait and Ethiopia are expected to resume soon to finalize a memorandum of understanding regulating the recruitment of workers from Addis Ababa, reports Al-Jarida daily. Al-Shammari emphasized the significance of this step in opening up a new market for recruiting domestic workers to meet Kuwait’s labor market demands. Al-Shammari highlighted the importance of diversifying the sources of domestic workers to create a balance in the market and alleviate shortages. Furthermore, Al-Shammari urged the relevant authorities to raise awareness among recruitment agencies, office owners, and employers about the new executive regulations governing domestic workers. These regulations aim to protect the rights of domestic workers and have been widely accepted within the recruitment community.
