The 102 sacks of rice were found missing from the warehouse owned by Mallika Thamsej, 57, in Ban Nong Muang, Amphoe Huai Thalaeng. The rice was there on December 1 and gone on Mallika’s next inspection on January 1, leaving her without any rice to sell to repay the debt she accrued while growing it. The drought last season was bad enough, Mallika said, but the loss of the rice was a double misfortune for her family. She harvested 250 sacks of rice the year before, but the drought reduced her 2018 yield to just 102 sacks. She urged police to conduct a speedy investigation and bring the thief to justice.
