In a shocking incident, a former sex worker who was also a caretaker of the NGO – Durbar Mahila Sammanaya Committee office at Asia’s largest red light districts – Sonagachi in Kolkata was found murdered on Wednesday morning. While her body was found hanging from the ceiling of the NGO office, two girls, who were rescued a couple of days back from the adjacent Bowbazar red light area, were also missing from the same office. Till the completion of the formalities, the girls were to remain at the NGO office. When they reached the third floor of the office, they spotted Rai’s body hanging from the ceiling and the two girls missing. Police believe that traffickers could be involved in the case and may have murdered the care-taker in a bid to free the rescued girls from the NGO.
