The retired military general was removed by the court in 2016, three months after his inauguration, while his challenger, Senator Atai Aidoko, took over his seat. The court ordered Alfa to be sworn in as senator as he was the rightful candidate of the PDP which won the election. The court’s decision followed a December 2017 Appeal Court ruling which affirmed an earlier decision of the Supreme Court, ordering a fresh start into the pre-election matter. He said, “Out of the eight judgments in this case, I have won seven, including the last six, both at the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court with the only Court of Appeal judgment in favour of Senator Aidoko nullified by the same Court of Appeal. Saraki refused to obey the orders.”In his reaction, Saraki, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said, “Nobody is ready for such distraction at this moment.”Copyright PUNCH.
