The askaris reportedly arrested the woman after being found hawking goods within the city's CBD, which is against the city's latest regulations. The incident sparked rage on social media, with political leaders, members of the public condemning the act. On Thursday, March 25, Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o suspended county officers saying he was away on official duties in Nairobi when the unfortunate incident occurred. Nyong'o stated he was saddened and shocked by the ugly ordeal and rebuked his officers for their actions.
