(Roger Steinman/AP)Kirk Cousins faced sky-high expectations after he signed a three-year, $84 million guaranteed contract with the Minnesota Vikings in the spring of 2018. Cousins finished as just the 14th best passer of 2018, per ESPN’s Total Quarterback Rating. It was a far cry from the $24 million cap hit Minnesota’s front office earmarked for Cousins that season. Minnesota ran play action 20 percent of the time in 2018 (22nd) and Cousins produced a 116.1 passer rating in those situations. He’s taking more shots downfield, too: 4.2 a game this season compared to 3.9 a game last season.
