King Mohammed VI and Pope Francis held tête-à-tête talks Saturday afternoon at the Royal Palace, before they headed to the Rabat-based Mohammed VI Institute, a training center for Imams, Murshideen and Murshidat (male and female preachers), which champions a moderate and tolerant Islam against the threat of extremism. He pointed out that the setting up of this imams’ training institute, at the initiative of King Mohammed VI, is part of his commitment to protect religion. She said she would devote her time and efforts to promoting awareness for peace and against violence in the name of religion, thanks to the experience and knowledge gained at the Mohammed VI Institute. He said he had acquired solid training and deep knowledge in traditional religious sciences and modern humanities at the Mohammed VI Institute. The Institute, opened in 2015, is housing 1,200 live-in students from Morocco, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
