Kimunya Sh60m graft case postponed as lawyer was absent

The hearing of a Sh60 million graft case against former Finance minister Amos Kimunya and two other people was adjourned yesterday until September 4. The case had been scheduled for hearing before Milimani principal magistrate Felix Kombo of the Anti-Corruption Court, but it could not proceed as Kimunya’s lawyer James Gitau was not present in court. The court was told that Gitau has travelled to South Africa for a personal matter. They are accused of abuse of office by fraudulently disposing of 25 acres of public land worth Sh60 million in June 2005. Earlier, the DPP rejected a plea by Kimunya to settle the case out of court, as it was a public-interest case.
