Besieged police Crime Intelligence boss (CI) Peter Jacobs and his contemporary at the Hawks, Advocate Godfrey Lebeya, find themselves at the centre of an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) probe into the death of Anti-Gang Unit officer Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear. The police watchdog is investigating allegations of defeating or obstructing the ends of justice, on the strength that the pair had forewarning that Kinnear’s cellphones were being illegally tracked nearly two weeks before he was shot.
