The problem is that too many black children are being robbed of the opportunity to learn. Black kids are being systematically thrown out of schools for doing far less than the white kids in the racist video. School suspensions plummeted, and parents and administrators were forced to think about the consequences of school discipline disparities. How we choose to discipline children is often a function of how much we empathize with them, whether we see ourselves in them. What punishment does a black kid receive for wearing the wrong uniform?
