Khalid gave the directive during a meeting with top officials from the Department of Shipping at the secretariat on Thursday afternoon. The state minister also instructed the Department of Shipping to observe a “Registration Week” for speedboat registration. “The government is firm about this decision and no speedboats will be allowed to operate without registration,” he said. The decision was taken because many speedboats often cause accidents and deaths on the Padma and other rivers.
