KUALA LUMPUR: Weightlifting, Sepak Takraw, and Taekwondo have been dropped from 19 core sports under the National Sports Council (NSC) programme starting with the Malaysia Games in Perak next September, as announced by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Khairy said that such a decision was made during the NSC’s management board meeting that he chaired yesterday. Khairy said the move was made based on deteriorating performances, doping and leadership issues within the three sports associations. With such a decision, the three sports associations involved will be takern out of the NSC programme, funding rescinded and they will have to manage on their own. Translated from Berita Harian
