PETALING JAYA: Malay youths appear to lag behind in terms of social mobility compared to their Chinese counterparts, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic). Citing a study conducted by Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), he said only 33% of Malay youths, who were born to parents without formal education, attained tertiary education, compared to 44% of Chinese youths in the same situation. “Although various initiatives were introduced by the Government to improve the economic status of the Malays, we are still behind compared to our Chinese counterparts. “Such social mobility trend will create a vicious cycle if it is not addressed immediately. Khairy advised young Malay entrepreneurs to fully optimise the advent of new technology and to adopt a winning mentality.
