For years, Indian Air Force (IAF) Road, which connects Avadi and Pattabiram with rest of the city via the Chennai–Tiruvallur High (CTH) Road, has been ridden with potholes. “IAF Road is a key link road for residents of Pattabiram as they can skip the defence area to reach the key local spots in Avadi,” says V. Raghavan, a resident of Muthaputhupet. More importantly, many ambulance drivers stop at the intersection of IAF Road and CTH Road, citing poor condition of the road as reason. The bone of contention here, residents say, is that IAF Road belongs to the Ministry of Defence, but the neighbourhood comes under Avadi Municipality jurisdiction. “We are ready to re-lay IAF Road once the Ministry hands over the stretch to us.
