One woman, calling herself ‘Donna’, matched with the fake account and told the New Zealand website Stuff.co.nz that she found 'Mullen' really charming. By the time the woman's daughter found out what was happening and stopped the payments, Donna had already sent 'Mullen' $517,000 NZ dollars - or around €315,000 euros. Senator Daly, in a statement to The Times and other news outlets, has said he was 'horrified' by what had happened. "I am obviously horrified at the idea that unbeknownst to me my image could be used in such awful activity, especially where people have been defrauded.
