Kenya's Supreme Court is delivering its full statement on why it nullified the result of the August 8 presidential elections, as pro-government and opposition protesters gathered outside. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court nullified the result, citing irregularities, after opposition leader Raila Odinga filed a petition claiming the electoral commission's computers were hacked to generate a victory for President Uhuru Kenyatta. Chief Justice David Maraga ruled that the electoral commission "failed, neglected or refused to conduct the elections in accordance with the constitution." Nairobi has been tense this week ahead of Wednesday's ruling, with police tear-gassing protesters and the US embassy urging calm. In opening remarks Wednesday, Chief Justice Maraga announced that one of the four judges who voted to annul the election had travelled outside the country and would not be present in court.
