The awards were meant to recognise outstanding personalities and companies and also crown the Mr and Miss Kenya Dubai. Kenyans leaving in the emirates converged at the Spree club based at the Royal Ascott hotel in Dubai for the much anticipated KEDIA awards. The red carpet event was the first of its kind in Dubai for Kenyans in Diaspora and some of those in attendance hoped that such gatherings would be a common spectacle. The 6th of May was not a usual night in Dubai. The main sponsors of the event were Air Rwanda who facilitated Business class travel of the celebrities who graced the event.
