The brawl between the two began when the officer stationed at Utheri Wa Lari police post was questioned for arriving at the station late while drunk. However, the junior officer, identified as Corporal Joseph Muthunga, arrived at the station moments after 10pm, prompting his boss to lash out at him. When his boss came out to find out the issue, the junior officer shot him six times, the victim dying on the spot.
