The five-day event will run from May 5 to 10 at the Shaza Beach Hotel in Mombasa. According to Chess Kenya chairman Benard Wanjala, 40 players from nine federations had registered for the event as of Wednesday. In the Ladies section, reigning national champion Gloria Jumba and Kenya Open winner Joyce Nyaruai will fly the country’s flag. The Open winner will also be awarded the prestigious International Masters title, the second highest title in chess after the Grand Master and cash award of Sh100,000.
