Security forces are flushing "criminal elements" out of a forest in western Kenya, an official said on Thursday. "The security operation has been designed to return the situation to normal, which is what is likely to happen soon." United Nations Special Rapporteurs expressed concerns on Monday about reports that indigenous Sengwer had been attacked and evicted from their homes as a result of the EU project. Wakhungu said this week's security operation was led by the interior ministry and did not include KFS. Activists welcomed the EU's move but called on Kenya to allow the Sengwer to return to live in the forest.
