Two e-mobility companies in Kenya have launched public charging stations for motorcycles and buses, moving the country closer to a fully electrified public transit system. Roam recently launched their multi-purpose electric motorcycle charging stations while BasiGo launched a public e-bus charging station. The Roam Hub is specially tailored to meet the demands of boda-boda operators, who are the mainstay of the motorcycle taxi industry in Kenya. The hub charging stations are located at three Nairobi locations: Total Energies Lusaka Road (the flagship location), Waiyaki Way and Ngong Road. “Charging stations such as this reflect the future of an electrified public transit system and address reliable charging infrastructure, which is a key challenge in implementing electric public transport.”
