"We have launched a solar access programme targeting 270,000 households, that is about 1.3 million customers and that project will cost slightly over KSh 15 billion. That is the programme we are undertaking with our partners to facilitate those people in the off-grid areas to take solar power. Kenya Power had been alarmed by the reduction of power consumption among its key industrial customers opting for much cheaper energy. Other consumers who have since installed own-generated solar energy are Africa Logistics Properties, Mombasa International Airport and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE).
