As the Majority Whip of Kenya Kwanza in the Senate, Khalwale criticised Gachagua for alleged manoeuvres to succeed President William Ruto. This marks the first instance of a high-ranking member of Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance confronting the deputy president and UDA deputy party leader. The Deputy President said he would seek to broker a truce after the second attempt to impeach Mwangaza failed at the Senate. It will be the third time the Deputy President will try to reconcile the Meru leaders. Gachagua's gesture comes as some residents of the county have petitioned President William Ruto to dissolve the county government over persistent wrangles.
