Kenya’s government has partnered with an electric motorbike manufacturer in a bid to introduce more than a million electric vehicles (EVs) throughout the East African country. Increasing electric vehicle adoption in KenyaSpiro, launched last year, has so far introduced nearly 10,000 electric bikes in Benin, Togo, Rwanda and Uganda. Kenya Power’s E-Mobility Conference Report, released earlier this year, said that currently, only 5% (1,350) of newly registered vehicles in Kenya are electric, with electric motorcycles accounting for 844 and three-wheelers 153. The report said that Kenya intends to increase electric mobility adoption and has set a target of 2025 as the year by which 5% of all newly registered vehicles will be electric.
