Updated Sun, July 10th 2016 at 16:05 GMT +3Nairobi: Kenya’s national carrier Kenya Airways has suspended flights to Juba, South Sudan after sustained fighting between rival factions that broke out on Friday. “We wish to advise our guests that we have suspended flights to Juba, South Sudan due to uncertain security situation,” said KQ in tweet. KQ made the announcement on Sunday as fighting between troops loyal to President Salva Kiir and soldiers who support vice president Riek Machar flared up. The clashes came at a time when South Sudan was marking its fifth year since independence and amid efforts to implement a ceasefire. South Sudan, which gained independence on July 9, 2011 has been embroiled in civil war since President Salva Kiir fired his Vice President Riek Machar in 2013.
