According to a weekend report, the Liberal government has quietly approached the secondary school teachers’ union, seeking an extension to the current contract. Secondary school teachers make up the most militant of the major teachers’ unions. Teachers unions have spent millions in recent elections to keep the Liberals in office, and have been rewarded with reciprocal generosity. Though still cozy, the relationship suffered a blow when public anger forced Wynne to curtail the Liberals’ fundraising methods. The current teachers contract is scheduled to expire in August 2017.
