The U.S. Senate approved a mammoth tax reform bill just before 2 a.m. Saturday, the most far-reaching since Ronald Reagan was president. They couldn’t possibly, because almost no one has read the whole bill, including many of the Republican senators who voted for it. High earners and corporations took a bit of a hit as a result, as tax cuts aimed at them had to be scaled back to pay for some of the add-ons. Thus the mad rush to pass a bill, no matter how hurried or slap-dash the process. Left-wing activists believe destroying the oil industry will save the universe; many in the GOP hold the same faith in the revitalizing capabilities of tax cuts.
