The pride of Ireland, Kellie Harrington, is being celebrated by boxing clubs up and down the land this week following her Olympic gold-medal win. Tralee Boxing Club has a storied history dating back to 1936, and it has produced some of Kerry's greatest boxers. Tralee Boxing Club currently has eight girls boxing, including 13-year-old Alanna O'Brien from Tralee, who won the John Mahon Tournament in January 2020 in Limerick. Coach at Tralee Boxing Club, Donie Jack Griffin, said Kellie's gold medal is a boost for the sport that will, hopefully, urge more girls to give it a try. Donie said Kellie has always given her time at various tournaments around Ireland, helping young boxers, and he called her a 'great ambassador'.
