Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega said President William Ruto's support in the Mount Kenya region is increasing despite what critics say about him and his leadership. The politician, who is one of those who joined Ruto from Azimio's La Umoja coalition, claims that Ruto's tour of the region has only strengthened his hold on the region, making it almost entirely his support. It was also said to be designed to ease anxiety in the region caused by Ruto's recent secret meeting with Azimio's boss, Raila Odinga. But according to Kega, that is not the case, characterizing the visit in part as a thank you to the region for voting for Ruto, with almost 86 percent of voters in the region voting for him in the August 2022 elections. He said there is no way Raila is cheating him through the back door to secure a seat in his administration.
