Some critics described the Kazungula project as an economic doom for Zimbabwe, stating that after the completion of the bridge, Zimbabwe will not be getting cargo duty and toll fee, and neither will it be a transit hub for south and north bound traffic. “Zimbabwe as a country within the SADC region will benefit from the Kazungula bridge. In fact our benefits as a country accrue mainly from a perspective of regional integration and trade. “There will be easy passage of passengers and freight, thereby reducing the time delay induced costs of regional trade which we are party,” Matiza said. The Kazungula bridge as well as the OSBP which is targeted for completion in 2020, is expected to link and open up markets for over eight African countries.
