Karina Gauvin and Pacific Baroque Orchestra put on a fine show

That was certainly the case on Friday night at Koerner Hall, where Canadian star soprano Karina Gauvin and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra from Vancouver presented largely unfamiliar 18th-century music with Russian connections. Gauvin is well-known and well-loved in Toronto, having sung frequently with the Tafelmusik Orchestra. But the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and its leader, keyboard player Alexander Weimann, were not a known quantity until Friday night. He is supported by the Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation.
